Getting what seems to be a pretty good deal next weekend.

1992 GTX that got sunk and restarted, not sure of condition. a 1996 GTI in good shape and a double trailer for $500.

I've seen pics and they seem to be in aesthetically decent shape.

Gonna do a compression check and a land run-up on the GTI.

Will dig into the GTX to see how much water damage there may be after I make sure the GTI is ready for July 4th weekend.

Looking forward to learning more about these. Already got service manuals downloaded for both and have been reading up.

I was a wrench turner in the Navy on fighter jets and eventually ran Maintenance Control in 3 F/A-18 squadrons and ended up on CAG staff as the F/A-18 class desk and flight deck control coordinator.

Total of 25 years active duty and then 4 years Marine Airwing Staff as a contractor.

Permanently retired at 49 years old and simplified life to the point that I really need a ski that sunk...LOL. Too much time on my hands between camping trips.

Figured the double trailer is worth the $500 investment, so what's the harm in making this a kind of hobby.

And while I'm wrenching on the sunken treasure, or anchor as the case may be, the kids and grandkids can enjoy the GTI.

I read the 717 is a beast of an engine, so I know they will enjoy tubing behind it.

Anyway, the name was my road name when I used to ride down in the Nawlins' area, but y'all can call me Bob if you like.

Looking forward to meeting the members and siphoning off some knowledge.
