Hard to start...start button works intermittently!

I just test drove a 2008 GTX that the seller said was having problems starting. The push start button sometimes does nothing, then may click a time or two before finally starting. Every time I killed it while on the water, I had to play with it to get it started again.

I also noticed that when it would do this, there was no beeping like the other ski this guy is selling would do when the kill switch was plugged in. The guages/instrument panel stayed lit the whole time and did not exhibit any problems.

The ski has 66 hours on it. Another problem I also noticed was a miss at partial throttle but probably is a separate problem. My main concern is the starting issue...I do not want to buy this ski and have it turn into a major problem.

Any ideas?

The battery is brand new...he changed it in an attempt to fix the problem!

Very possible since it is not beeping when you experience the no starting is that it could be as simple as dirty contacts on DESS post and/or lanyard key.

A couple other possibilities. 1) could be a solenoid going bad. You can test by jumping the solenoid next time it does it. 2) loose connection/ground.

I checked all connections and grounds I could find. They all seemed good.

I will call the seller and have him try cleaning the DESS key and post. I assume cleaning with alcohol is ok?

Sure wish I had the ski here to play with and troubleshoot...
