I have a Yellow GTI 97-98… put it in the water this year it started right up, got off the dock about 50 feet and it stopped... like someone pulled off the tether …NOW…WHEN YOU PUSH THE START BUTTON NOTHING HAPPENS! When tether is plugged in it beeps, gauges come to life, oil light turns on then goes out …all fuses are good both front and back when I jump the solenoid it cranks (battery is good) nothing happens!

Any ideas would be welcome

Thanks

A bad DESS post can cause loss of functions. You may just have Water in the rear
electrical box, shorting coil as ya take off.

well, not really! I got to the cottage I plugged the DESS plug on and it beep twice ...still wouldn't turn over...open the back electrical box and pulled the wire (plug) off the solenoid ...push it back on put the DESS plug back on the post beeped twice ...and it fired up and ran! pulled the plug off tried it 10 min later NO BEEPS but it started ...I drove it across the lake to see and friend for about 15 min ...put the plug on and it wouldn't start!! had to get towed back! that was last week ...havent got it to beep again but the gauges come to life?! anyways I think it's a DESS post problem ....I don't think anything I've done (plugging unplugging replugged) did anything at all... I think its a roll of the dice and the DESS post is reading it or not ....I'm going to find a good used DESS post and try that next!

had some time to spend with my wife's GTI this past weekend ...bought a DESS post plugged it in and the same thing happened beep twice would not turn over....took all the plugs and fuses in the front of the boat apart made sure they were clean ...took the top off the back electric box made sure the plug-ins were clean took the fuse out and it looked like it had a little gew on the 2 prongs ...cleaned them off put it back together started right up and drove it all weekend :hurray:
