GTI RFI Speedometer not working

2003 GTI LE RFI all the modes on the dash is working but the speed. The digital one and the analog one both do not work digital one says 0 and analog never comes off 0. Any ideas where I should start, also no fuses are blown.

Likely no input from the paddle wheel on the speed sensor. But there's a way to find out and here's how you can ck it. Look for the male/female plug at the rear of the ski going through the hull plate to the sensor. Undo that 3 wire plug and look for the purple/yellow and black/orange and tap the multi meter on those two wires. Set the meter to DC voltage.

You need to figure out a way to have the male/female connector back together and still have the meter tapped in. You have about 30 seconds, push the start/stop button and activate the gauges then spin the paddle wheel on the ride plate with your finger. While observing the meter you should see a voltage fluctuation, if it doesn't change that's your problem.

Either the entire sensor or the paddle wheel is bad, might be cheaper to get the entire sensor used, or convert over to a GPS speed o. Candoo makes a good one, last I checked they run about $120.
