Replaced fuel lines. Cleaned filters in carbs. Broke fuel/water separator so I have replaced it. New plugs gaped at .021. GSX will run 7000 rpm if the impeller gets out of water (no load on motor). It will stay there for a couple seconds then back to 4750-5000 rpm. Compression in both cylinders is 150+ psi. Installed new coil. Old one was corroded. Not sure were to look for other problems. If water is a little choppy it will run out all the way. But once it takes a set, it will die back to 5000 ish rpm.

Don't forget the fuel selector switch! Mine was all gummed up with crap. Change it to reserve and if it works fine then you need to clean/replace the fuel selector switch!

Does not matter if fuel selector is in either position. On cleaning carbs, what should I look for? They were clean when I had them apart.

On Carbs pull the little filters and make siure no gunk, check for bad gaskets or brittle ones. Also check your water seperator oring and make sure all fuel lines and clamped tight. Another thing is check that's gave me weird problems before was the rectifier

had the same prob. with my 97 gsx just replaced all the fuel lines .make sure the fuel selector is clean the reserve side on mine was completely stopped up with that green stuff.also check your tank vents make shure they are working correct had to clean mine.
try running a can of seafoam through a tank of gas it will help clean out anything you might have missed.good luck this worked on my ski it is running like new again

Everything. Take them apart... verify that EVERY passage is open, and make sure the pop-off is correct.

Also... when was the last time you cleaned the Rave valves?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I took the carbs apart and cleaned them. There was a little bit of junk in them. Raves have less than ten hrs since rebuild. It looks like cleaning carbs was not on the "shops" to do list on a rebuild. Going for a test ride today!!!

@ Dr. Honda THANK YOU!!!! All your help here is greatly appreciated. I try to read as much as possible before asking a question. All your advise is direct and right on the problem.

@ Cornnutt did not get to ride yet. Cleaning the carbs COMPLETELY, every passage, every jet every nook and cranny seemed to fix problem. Now it starts at a bump of S/S switch, no holding it. Revs like it should have.
