I find it interesting that everyone has trouble with gray fuel lines, i still have the original gray lines after 12 years 97 gsi. Of course i have never used any thing but premium ETHANOL FREE gas. Luckily it is still available here in MN. It really doesn't pay to out cheap yourself.

is it the ethanol that is decaying them? i think there is only like one gas station that still caries ethanol free gas

Hey Davec, you may want to pull off a line or two and just look at them and the carb inlets. My 95 ran pretty well but I looked at them anyway and they are full of Goo & Nasty!!!

hey bigler.
i live in the uk and all our gas is ethanol free & it seems nobody has problems with the gray fuel lines. so yeah i think your right.

I wonder what the goo is. I have some lines with the goo in them but I see no physical sign of breakdown on the lines. And the green stuff only seems to be in the return lines and not the supply lines. In my case anyways.

I do see some sticky brown goo in places on the supply side.Maybe the brown is the fuel line breaking down and then it mixes with the ethanol making it green???

Any scientists here?? I can send you a sample of the "goo". lol

It's a mixture of fuel and ethanol breakdown with the gray fuel line...just dump them all.
