Welp, today marked the end of the season more than likely for the 99 GTI. My so called "new engine" will have to be sent back to SES after it lost compression in my mag cylinder. Not sure what happened. Probably had 20 hours on it, compression never really came up past 140 on either tho, even tho I broke it in right. I was planning on sending it back anyways due to the compression, but this just cut the season short for it.

On the other hand just picked up this 97 spx today. It was for sale for with a trailer, but I didn't want the trailer so I paid him 550 for it, and even got a test run! Def needs a good clean up, all the maintenance done, fuel lines, carb clean, raves, etc. this thing is 17 years old and the raves have never been removed, engine has never been opened either. 150 psi on both cylinders. Hell even the VTS works and I get the double beep. It has had a new mpem at one point, and although it didn't run spectacular, it did feel solid. Had a new wear ring last year, and the guy even always used seadoo full synthetic. It will be a work, I can't decide if I should keep it, part it and have a spare engine and parts, or fix it up and sell it. Gauges are all water logged and faded unfortunately

What ya guys think?

Nice find. About all of the sub-$1000 787 skis have dried up for the summer here. Sorry about the GTI.

Well, spent a good long day on this thing. Will spend tomorrow after work cleaning up the outside and making it like new. Detailed the inside as much as I could, super clean and a scrub brush, a shop vac and some water. That's all I did. I wish I woulda taken before pics, it was filthy as any other 17 year old ski is.

Next, well before that I had to do something about the sun faded hood. Did the old "softscrub and a scotchbrite", still needs a little more work, but this is only after about 20 minutes. Will be like new tomorrow.

You can see where I still need to hit it a little harder tomorrow, where it is still white. So much better tho.

One thing I loved about this was how original it was. The raves had NEVER been removed as you can see, I was expecting to see a mess like never before when I pulled them.

But this is what I found unbelievable, when I pulled them they weren't actually too bad, especially not for never being serviced!

A little clean up and they are good as new, I threw some o rings on there but reused the OEM gaskets because they still didn't leak and they had the paint on them which I loved. Replaced all the fuel lines, cleaned the carbs and fuel selector (which I will replace because the ON just never seemed to flow very well.

The carbs cleaned up very nicely, didn't have too much junk in the filter. The pop off was perfect on both carbs, popped at 26 psi I think, and didn't hiss or leak at all. I'm flabbergasted how clean this thing is, the VTS works, but the gauges don't for the fuel or the VTS.

Also replaced the oil lines with yellow tygon and it should be good to go. I love the fact that nothing has ever been touched on this thing, makes it easier to work on. And love the fact the previous owner used XPS2 so I don't even have to drain it, just keep adding. Probably why the engine is in such good of shape and the raves were so clean.

Nice find! sucks about the other build :(

So you just used scotchbrite pads and softscrub on the hood and it came out like that?

Yup. Softscrub and scotchbrite. I did a small section on the hull and it took away some of the fading as well, think I am going to try it on the whole thing. And then buff it

What's going on with the laundry basket with the ratchet strap through it?

K if I told you, you might understand being from Texas. Maybe even BNelson, probably not racer since he's a Northeast city boy.

The strap is on there because it is the trash can for the beer cans and I strap it on the back of my 4 wheeler when we are all out riding at the farm! Hahaha. Im not going to litter, ya know??? Ha

You're right. The only thing you drink from a can is soda. Beer comes from glass bottles!

And to clarify, I'm not from the city. I don't leave my porch light on like city folk do.
