I've seen and heard some decent things about https://www.fullboreonline.com/ for having 2-stroke engines bored. Do y'all have any opinions or suggestions for getting a 947/951 bored and getting new pistons?
Months or longer is the norm with them, like 6+ months for some.
I recommend Group K for machine work, Harry Klemm is one of the best in the business and reasonable on price. I have been using him since the early 90's and his work is fast and perfect every time.
Any of that work can be done locally. Check local shops, call a motorcycle shop in the area that does cylinder boring or see who they use. Order your pistons and bring it to them. Easy Peasy and you 'll get your parts back in a few days.
I have 4 cylinders need boring right now and a friend that used to own a motorcyle shop. He has the set up at his house now. There is another guy in town that bores cylinders for $50 each. You get them back the next day sometimes. You can DO IT !! LOL Good luck !
Make sure the local shop knows what they are doing with 2-strokes, it isn't the same as boring a 4-stroke. I have seen local shops ruin 2-stroke cylinders by not chamfering the ports correctly and decking the cylinder thinking they were helping out.
Yes I can confirm that FullBore takes a long time. I send my cylinders January and they never responded. After 5 months I opened a case w/PayPal to get my money refunded. They then responded and finally refunded my money.
That being said, I still believe that they do good work but having to open a dispute with a 3rd party to get them to respond is not good.
The cylinders were shipped back with one sleeve damaged and now I need to add that to the top end work. Good to hear local motorcycle shops can do top end work. Will try that next.
