the questions below are directed at a 1998 seadoo xp limited

questions:
1: when replacing plugs what is the remomended gap for the 951 motor

2: i have read it has upgraded valves do they require maintance/cleaning regularly if so is their a write up on this?

3:how often should i replace the pump oil and what weight oil should i use what oil fiilter do i need.

4: does anyone offer a group buy on the seadoo 2 stroke oil :)

5: i used 93 octane that was non ethonal is it necessary or can i go with a lower grade.(non ethonal at the pump is pricey) and ethonal based fuels tend to burn a little cooler but the ethonal eats away at plastic fuel lines and really bad on plastic gas tanks.

i ask about the valves because usually aftermarket valves require maintenance of some type.

is their any other general maintance i should do.. my registration comes back this week and i want to get all the dirty parts done so i can ride it.. i have taken it for a few spins in the backwaters and its run nice but i havnt gone over 4,500 rpms either and also havn't run it for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I will take care of a few of them.

1. Gap is .20 - .24 in
3. Pump oil change once a year. Sea-doo Synthetic Jet Pump Oil 75W90 GL5 or similar
4. Not that I am aware of. My local shop does a warehouse sale once a year and sells it for buy two get one free which ends up being around $31 per gallon
5. 93 octane probably won't benefit you at all over 87. BRP recommends 87 octane for the 951.

Some other things:
Check the fuel lines, if they are gray you need to change those out. The stock fuel lines corroded badly from the ethanol. You will probably want to clean the entire fuel system (including carbs). Regular automotive lines are fine.

How long has it been since the carbs have been cleaned/rebuilt. BRP recommends every 50 hours. If you still had the gray fuel lines, one or both of your internal carb filters will probably need cleaned/replaced. This could lead to a blown cylinder.

If the small oil injection lines are the original ones, you should change those as well. If they are too soft or too brittle, they could cause a failure in one or both cylinders. Recommended to change those every couple years and inspect regularly.

Pull rave valves, inspect and clean.

best link i have found...

i think if your only trying to get the surface clean on the valve( lower portion) without complete disassembly use some electric tape near the top(narrow part bear the base) and soak the valve in some oven cleaner and let soak for a night in a baggie.. it will make removing any tarnish/carbon build up a snap... any thought from the experts?
