Fuel lines upgrade, clear versus black ?

Seadoobuddy, I am almost done replacing all my fuel and oil injection lines.

I used regular black non fuel injection line from Carquest for all my fuel line and fuel and lubricant yellow Tygon PVC tubing for all oil injection lines, big and small.
Hey you got all of the lines at carquest?

OK I'm gonna speak strictly from personal experience here. I've run Tygon line like some guys run pipe along the side of the road. I never knew any different as a young lad just stringing up chainsaws and weed eaters with it. Everybody was always happy with the new pretty yellow and we never had any complaints.

Then I sold the small engine shop and just started servicing and repairing my own tools and toys. Maybe that's about when ethanol hit or perhaps it's just when I first "got a taste of my own medicine" but after two or three years it would start to leak where it used to fit tight going in and out of the fuel cells. It tends to hold to the carb nipples but will be untrustworthy after you pull it and try to re-attach even if you try to snip a little off because it becomes too stiff.

As it turns out my uncle(who I taught and still works at the Stihl dealership 15 years later) was having the same problem. He started using the black line that they started using and so did I. I have never had to change any since that I've upgraded. Maybe Tygon has got with the times but I'm not going back.

Back in the day the best of Seadoo tuners used to use "see-through" line. That was before the ethanol era though. I've also noticed when I have encountered it(Neptune and Riva racing) it was much thicker walled than the clear lines I am seeing sold today. I admitted earlier that I to fell for the "colored fuel line" on fleabay. I just want everyone to know that it turns stiff as a board at the first sight of today's pump gas.

Matt, are you having the same experience with the oil lines getting hard or just the fuel lines? I have never used it for fuel lines only because of the cost, and the black lines work well.

That being said, I did just buy $150 worth of Tygon for 2 skiis oil lines based on recommendations by most on the forum. Just want to make sure I did the right thing.

Yeah man it should be fine. Minnekonka has pointed out before that they put in different additives in different regions of the country. Some experiences I've had may be different elsewhere.

Tygon has a good name to protect and I'm sure they have made necessary adjustments along the way. My problem may be that I kept using the same outdated line from a huge roll I bought 10+ years ago. I use the remainder on the oil lines and have never seen a problem with it there.
