Hi, I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere or is readily available, but i'm looking at the shop manual on the fuel system for my 587 motor, spi, and I wanted to replace all the fuel lines. I'm confused at which hose should go where to the carburator. I am seeing three hoses to the carburator,

top left (hose is going to the bottom right) where is that going to?

bottom left (hose is coming from fuel filter) if I am bypassing the fuel selector switch, is that coming from the reserve line?

right side (hose coming from gas tank) which line is that?

thanks so much, sorry for all the q's

I found this in another post from another member

"Are you putting the hoses back on the correct carb ports? The lowest port is fuel in (from the filter). The middle port is engine pulse. The upper port is fuel return to the tank."

is the pulse just like a breather?

Just look at the cover on the pump side of the carb. There will be a little arrow. One in... and one out. The in arrow is the feed, and the out arrow is the return hose.

The pulse line is what drives the pump. There should be a hose connected to that, and goes down to the engine crankcase.

Thanks Dr. Honda, you're absolutely right, I just checked it, I didn't see the third line before because my view was blocked by the flushing hose.

Also I wanted to ask you are these connectors necessary? maybe as breathers or any other purpose? or when I replace the lines, can I just use one longer piece of hose? thanks again

if you ask me, i would replace them for one longer hose! i don't know why they connected it that way.

thanks, i just removed it, and it just looks to be a connector with no vent, so i'm not going to put it back in
