Fort Lauderdale to Bimini Trip - Summer 2013

I am trying to put together a trip from Fort Lauderdale/Miami to Bimini this summer. They are approximately 45 miles apart. Same day there and back or maybe stay for a night or two. If you interested please reply to the thread and maybe we can make this happen. On a side note, I live in Fort Lauderdale and I see anything from 14 footers to a group of jet skiers making the trip and loving it.

Hi I was wondering what kind of ski or boat are you taking? I am interested but I'm not sure my ski would make it

Do your research for this trip and learn from others... I know of one, but perhaps two groups making this trip in the coming late Spring/early Summer. From previous trips, I've read where the crossing has taken anywhere from 3 to 6 hours, depending on the seas. Once you make landfall at Bimini, you have to do the customs thing and that's another time delay possibility. I'm pretty sure you can "pre-file" w/US Customs for the return - a friend sent me some info on that. I can look up the link and post it if you're interested. Of course, all of the aforementioned is from post and trip reports I've read and not based on my own personal experience. But if I were going to do it, it would not be there and back in one day. Just my 2...

I have been doing my research on this same trip. I was looking at going one of the first 2 weeks in July. How does that work for the time frame you were looking at? I am serious and have been putting together everything needed for this trip. Been working on finding out the customs stuff so if anyones has any information on the requirements for the Bahamas please pass them along.

Looking to join a trip to Bimini this summer. Riding a jetski. Let me know if you have a trip together and would add 1. Thanks 239-822-4025

LMK when you guys are down/here.

If there is a Sunday, Ill take you around Miami.

Is it ok for a 2 stroke to run for that long anyhow? It would be like 4 hours of full throttle on the engine

No.
Unless your caring an extra 20-30 gallons.................

You'll need gas once your there and to come back at $8 bucks a gallon.............

Woooh $8 a gallon?! That's not cheap.. Well the distance from Miami south beach to the inlet to Bimini is 82km or 51 mile.

If keeping a straight line.. (iSailor app for iPhone with Florida east coast map, map was like $6)

So if going to Bimini it's more like 50 mph for one hour only, right?

Are you on a 30' with triple outboards.

You are crossing the ocean on a ski. Your luckily if you maintain a 35-40 mph to conserve energy......

It takes usually 1.5+-2.5 hrs in good conditions
