On my buddies 97 GSI when we were pulling back to the ramp, his gauge started to flash 12 volt low and his ski started to run bad...... the battery is new. What would cause this?

The original OEM retifiers are low quality and notorious for failing. Make sure you replace it with an upgraded version. Do a search online they are readily available.
