can anyone tell me how hard is to do it myself engine rebuild and what do i need to know before i start to take the motor apart ,is it cheaper to buy one thats its rebuild.

Rebuilding the engine isn't that hard... but there are way too many things that you will need to know to be able to tell you in a post.

Get the factory service manual. It will tell you everything, then, make a post when something doesn't seem to make sense.

Good luck.

Full rebuild? Or just the top end?

Why are you asking... i.e. how do you know you need a rebuild? Rod through case, semi low compression, very low compression, etc?

what type of engine most are easy but your going to have the take the crank shat to a shop. It takes alot of specail tools to do it.

a compleat rebuild i think my crank seals are shot out .

If it were me... I would order a rebuilt engine from SBT with a 2 year warranty... or send my core to FullBore to have it rebuilt

I'm not too mechanical (yet) so maybe one of the other guys who have done rebuilds themselves can chime in and help compare costs, time and benefits

I've got the tools, and a shop to do it in... but unless I'm building a true performance engine... I just order a rebuilt from someone like SBT.

Yes, you can save a few $$$, doing all your own labor, but not much. Not to mention, a warranty is nice. One wrong thing can kill your new engine. If you do your own rebuild... you will be SOL. If you have a no fault from SBT... just yank it out, and send it back.

Yep I 2nd SBT bought a yamaha engine from them years ago and rode the ski for 3 years with no problem.
