Engine flooding out?

Ok I have a 1997 GTX that has had the carb rebuilt and all new fuel lines installed. Just fix oil leak issue and had an issue with the ski not starting. After checking the electronics (all checked ok) I moved to fuel and when I try starting the ski so much gas gets to the plugs they will not fire. I have taken the carb back off and double checked the rebuild and reinstalled it. Got the ski started and idle adjusted to 3000 rpm since it was out of water. Several starts and stops on the trailer and it worked just fine, sat overnight and fired right up so I took it to the lake for test run. Launched it and all she will do is crank but will not fire. Never even touched the throttle but she keeps flooding out???? Really got me baffled? Ideas?

Just a guess, but I would think the float is sticking....

Im sure others that know more will be along soon.
 
Interesting thought but since the float is located in the tank I not sure if that makes sense? I saw several posts about the float causing the gauge to malfunction. I thought needle valve in carb but I rebuilt the carb and have double checked the needle valve. Thanks for the reply lets see if anyone else thinks the float could cause the flooding issue.

Did you change the needles and seats? Sounds like they are leaking.
Also did you set the pop off pressure or use your old springs on the needle and seat. Pop off pressure is paramount in setting carbs correctly.
 
Won't the vent on the fuel line cause this? If the fuel is expanding due to heat or sloshing around, and his vent does not release the pressure, the pressure has to go somewhere.

Just a thought
 
Thanks for moving the post. I did not change the needle but I did install new spring. It is definately fuel as I shut off the fuel and the ski would attempt to fire. While I changed all the gas lines I did not check any vent hose but that is easy enough to do. When I had it running on the trailer after rebuilding card it ran fine for 10 plus minutes, got up to operating temp and no problem. Shut it off and could restart without any issues. Even after cooling off and setting overnight it started right up it was not until transport that the issue occurred.

Actually the exact opposite of what you should have done. You should really try and retain the original springs and use a new N&S and still check pop off. I hope you still have them.
 
Actually I did keep the original springs. I did make sure the ones I put in were the same length and number of coils. Sadly my rebuild kit came rings, gaskets, filter, and such but of course no new needle valve or seat. Trying to find any parts in Louisville KY has been difficult so I have to order everything. So back to ebay but before I do I will perform a pop off pressure check to see what the valve is doing and if there is a leak.
 
The length plays into it, but there is more to it than that. The coil thickness and the way it's wound also play into it. The springs are measured in grams, so just because they look the same does not mean they are. Every kit just about comes with all the springs and no needle and seats. Just make sure your buying genuine mikuni parts since the aftermarket stuff is questionable.

You said you installed the new springs from the kits so you defiantly have the wrong springs in now. None of the kits come with the correct springs for the seadoo's unless you ordered the parts from OSD or Minnetonka. Also 9 times out of 10 the old needle and seats are causing your flooding.
 
It was a Mikuni rebuild kit, I actually rebuilt a 1996 GTX at the sametime and with the same kit model as I used on the 1997. 1996 engine runs just fine, no flooding. Once I have the carb off I can do the pop off pressure check and also see if it is leaking.
 
So I did the pop off pressure test after reinstalling the original springs. One popped right at 30psi and dropped to 20psi before reseating. Second one the needle would not seat, had some junk in the bottom, cleaned it had to adjust the lever a little but got it adjusted to just about the same 30psi 20psi as the first one. Also found a small air leak on the other side of one carb, fixed it. Put it all back together and it fired right up. Adjusted idle speed once it was up to temp. Let it run for several minutes, after a few minutes it did start running rough and would stall but it would fire right back up. We'll see how it does and make adjustments as needed.
