Electrical issue or gauge issue - see pic inside!

1997 Speedster Twin Rotax - runs great - no obvious electrical issues otherwise - gauges have never been unplugged/disconnected etc. and they work fine while on the lake etc.

However, the gauges seem to be haunted! LOL!!!

The other day I noticed my gauges looked like in the photo below - with the boat in the garage and the DESS unplugged. I plugged in the DESS and they immediately pegged to zero and stayed there as long as the DESS was plugged in.

When I unplug the DESS, they return to the same as the photo. The worst is the speedo. The left tach moves a millimeter up and the right tach might flinch, but less.

If I disconnect my negative battery cables, it does not affect the gauges - they stay the same as in the photo.

I used a test light between the negative cables (did them one at a time) and the negative battery terminal and I do not have a short.

Lastly, I tapped and banged on the gauges to see if they moved and nothing happens.

I say "leave well enough alone" but am wondering if anyone else has observed this with their boat.
