Hi,
a while back I had to remove the engine from my 02 GTX RFI and and remove the driveshaft.
Now I put it back in and what I did was put two shims on the two side engine mounts. What this did was, with the whole impeller out the back of the ski and only the end of the driveshaft, from the back end of the driveshaft, I moved it side to side and it would wiggle about an inch out on each side, when I moved it downwards, it would move about an inch, and when I pushed it upwards it only moved about a half an inch. So I put in shims to make it have equal breathing room on all sides. Do you think this is good? I lost the original shims and had to make my own, should I buy the original shims?
Thanks
John
moving beyond the problem above, I put my ski in for the first time in about two years and after a lot of work I used it for about 30 mins.
Just now I opened it up to drain the oil and I saw one of the shims I used to raise the engine sitting on the bottom of the ski, and then I looked at the motor mount and the bolt was missing! The other side was still intact.
Is my driveshaft basically f-ed if I have been driving around like this?
thanks again
