Hey guys!

Got my ski running on the hose to check for leaks, (new fuel lines, had the waterbox out ect, check new throttle cable adjustment), after she was running for only 3-4 minutes I noticed a really weird sound from the drive shaft area. This ski is new to me, and I'm new to Seadoo specific issues. Does something need to be replaced or will this go away once in the water, under load etc. Video below for reference.

Sounds like the pump/impeller, if you have another garden hose spray water up in there while it's running. You could do it right thru the nozzle. Just be prepared, you'll probably get wet. If you are going to do that again, just release the c-clip on the driveshaft so the carbon seal isn't rubbing the stainless ring the entire time.

If it's new to you, you probably should check the pump, change the oil and inspect the wear ring. Congrats on the most addicting seadoo you could have bought!

In this video you will see where the c clip is. Pop that off then push the stainless ring forward.

Double check that the jet pump has oil, the impeller and liner look good and give it a run in the water really quick. Things can sound terrible on land and sound great in the environment the machine was built for. Start there then keep searching if things seem to be wrong.

Thanks for the help guys! Pump oil is next on my list. Have the seals and XPS oil on my bunch. Hope to get her in the water in the next week or so

Noises can show up or go away when it is in the water. My 94 xp has a background "whir" like a mini supercharger that only shows up just off idle in the water. It's spline wear/damage in the drive shaft splines or pto flywheel some where. I ran it without doing a motor alignment, only 45 minutes, the noise showed up at 30 minutes. Got the motor aligned, the noise stayed but has slowly faded away the more I ride it. Out of the water the noise is not there.

If you were running it for 3-4 minutes on the hose what you heard was an overheated carbon ring. You can’t run them that long on the hose or you will ruin them. They need to be submerged in lake water to cool them.

You can only run them for about a minute on the hose. The hose fitting is there just to flush the cooling system, not to run them for minutes on shore.

Ah!

How can I tell if I ruined it? :-(

Have you swapped better oil in yet? Some of the old blue stuff can be a lot smokier as well.

I will before my first ride. The oil in the tank is red and looks identical to the XPS full syn that I just bought. Will drain and replace the filter to be sure.

Apologies, I'd responded to the wrong thread. There was another one complaining about smoking, where the OP had mentioned in ANOTHER thread that the ski they'd bought had blue oil. My bad.

I ran one for 15 minutes on the flush hose one time. It worked fine afterwards and is still working but I no longer do that after I looked at the sealing system. :D LOL Skis do best in the environment for which they were designed. I run skis no longer than about 20 seconds out of the water....if that.
