Got my 97 787XP running. Rebuilt crank, o/h cylinders, replaced fuel lines, cleaned lines.
couple of problems on the test run.
1. good idle but a little flat in acceleration with great power at full rpm.
2. died twice at full power.
3. noticeable miss just off of idle
4. battery went dead, Checked stator. Full short on all three yellow wires so new stator is in order.
5. little hard to hot start. Have to hold throttle open like it is loaded up but notice little to no smoke when it starts.
So knowing that the stator is bad and is not putting out any voltage, would that have an effect on mid range power or dieing at full power? Running with BR8ES plugs.
Plug test looked good after full run so mixture is good.
High speed screw is closed and low speed screw open 3/4. Was initially 1 turn but mid range got better with a 1/4 turn in.
I know that the ignition can run on the battery but does a bad stator have much of an effect overall performance.
BTW looking for a good deal on a used stator.
