Hi, I thought I had an issue with the DESS, the engine would turn over fast, but wouldn't fire. Turns out, it was flooded a bit and needs new plugs.
But, it made me think of a couple of questions in case I do need to troubleshoot the DESS in the future.
1. My lanyard shows 8.87 Ohms across it, and the post is running consistently at 18.99. Is this normal? Does the 8.87 number get subtracted from the 18.99 and that is what is programmed into the "brain"?
2. I don't get any beeps when I attach the lanyard to the post, but the multifunction gauge flashes, and it starts okay. I'm worried a bit that it's getting iffy as to whether it will work, since the lanyard wobbles around on the post and I'm not getting any beeps. I was getting beeps last week, so not sure if the beeper just needs replaced.
3. Can a a 96 XP be retrofitted to not require the DESS lanyard, maybe transplanting an electronic module from another model that uses just the button, and get it work right?
My Seadoos are locked up in a garage if I'm not on them, so the security of the DESS system would not be an issue for me. I saw a post that explained that a non-DESS system can be fitted to the models that only use the button type lanyard, but didn't see anything about going the other way with it.
Thanks!!
Scott
