2002 GTX VTEC with 100hrs - pristine condition - bought for the grand kids. 3 issues (well maybe) - no codes showing.....

1. When I remove the lanyard it sounds like the fuel pump relay (or another relay) continues to cycle..it will not quit until the battery is dead. If I push the stop/start button it quits for about 30 seconds and then starts cycling again (again, lanyard is not on the post)

2 This may help the experts - I put the lanyard on the post, remove it, wait 5 seconds and then push the start/stop I get NO 33 second activation of the timer /gauges like test show I should.

3. When I pit the lanyard on the post I get two beeps followed by a continuous rhythmic cycle of two beeps until the ski starts - is this normal or should it be only two beeps? (found the answer--this is normal warning to start ski or remove lanyard)

Again ski runs fine, no codes.....think the DESS post is bad?

Thanks - Gramps!

1. Sounds like your TOPS valve cycling. Unplug it and see if it stops cycling. They tend to buzz and sort of cycle. Is your battery good? A weak battery can cause issues like this.
2. The 4tecs don't do the 33 second cycle without a key like the old 2 strokes. It should do nothing until the key is put on.
3. Normal.

DESS post is probably fine. Does the engine stop when the lanyard is pulled? Do the gauges go off right away when the key is pulled when it is not running? If both yes, post is working properly.

Thanks sea-doo!! I'll do some more research on the TOPS - I take it it is located next to the MPEM. Any ohm tests I can do?

OK went and pulled every connector I could find and the fast cycle (sounds like really fast relay chatter) wont stop until I pull the second 30 amp fuse or the black /red connector below on the bracket to the MPEM. I cannot tell (hearing loss) where the chatter is actually coming from....can't feel it in the MPEM or any other wired plug I can get to. Again the chatter will stop if I hit the start/stop button but it will come back within about 15 seconds (lanyard unplugged)
