So, My two DESS keys are disintegrating. they have fallen off the post a couple of times, and have been glued and taped... I think it's safe to assume their end is near...

Does anyone have a programmer in the Clear Lake area that might help me program a new key? The boat is on a lift and the trailer has not been registered for a while...I'd like to avoid putting it on a trailer if I can. I can travel by water though :)

Thanks!!!

I asked a similar question and was told the key and the post are a matched pair and that if you lose a key, you have to purchase a replacement pair. No one said anything about "reprogramming", so I'm interested in this thread.

I'm sorry to say I have encountered way too much bullshit when speaking to many so called *experts* at dealerships about our boats, and boats in general.

I'm now by default in "Do not believe anything I'm told by someone that stands to gain any money from any decision I make." The fact that you heard this reinforces this concern.

I can't tell if it's malice of mis-information, but it's a tough world out there. There are many AWESOME vendors that you can trust, but it's tough to tell them apart at first. As you find them we need to spread the word to support them.

I know for a fact a new key can be matched to an existing post, as I had one programmed many years ago, so for certain it can be done if your boat supports it (I think 96 and up that use the DESS system)

dealer can use their programmer to match a new key.

Good Luck!

Personal preference... I'd rather trailer the boat a few miles to the dealer than unhook and ship the MPEM

I just had Nick from Westside Powersports in Minnesota program two keys and send me a used DESS post. I covered overnight shipping both ways, but he programmed my new keys and sent them back to me with my MPEM the same afternoon he received them. I sent my MPEM Tuesday morning from NH and received everything back on Thursday. He was super responsive with all of my questions, and in fact answered his phone on Labor Day! I would not hesitate to use him for any parts or programming in the future. As far as removing the MPEM, it was not even 5 minutes to remove it from my SPORTSTER LE. just two nylock nuts and 3 harnesses to detach. I spent most of the time removing the life vests and ski ropes from the rear hatch compartment and putting them back after. The keys work perfectly and I have not replaced my DESS post yet. I have not had any ignition cut offs with the new keys. I think my old key may have been the problem.
