Now that the 4th has come n gone its time to install the rebuilt crankshaft in the case and close it up so this White Man can take his Doo's to da River and have sum fun.
B4 I do that, however, I have Four (4) simple questions regarding greasing the "seals" that are located on both ends of the crankshaft:
1. My Clymer's Manual (Snipe, I'm trossin' it after this project) instructs to fill the "cavity. of each seal," however, it does not explain where the "cavity" is nor provide an example.
I am assuming, however, that the "cavity" Clymer's refers to is the concave side of the seal (the side facing the bearings when installed)(see 1st photo), this I am supposed to put grease inside the concave side of the seal. In other words, "fill up the cavity!"
2. Being taught at an early age not to assume anything because doing so can make an "ass" out of "u" and "me," I went to another source to find an answer, my SD Manual.
The SD Manual instructs to lubricate the "lip" of the seal, however, does not explain where the "lip" is, thus, leaving me in the dark. I don't know what the "lip" of a seal is, or where it is.
If it is the inner diameter, which makes sense to me, then, couldn't I simply grease the shaft and slide the bearing on?
3. When considering the foregoing, do I apply grease to both the "cavity" and the inner circle?
4. Can I use lithium grease with MOLLY, the grease I use at the Zerk fittings for my Doo trailer, or does the grease have to be Mollyless, i.e., lithium only?
H E L P! I wanna get this done this morning.
