So I have a story.
2005 gti came on the classified site with a possibly bad engine for 1500$
The vultures grabbed that one pretty quick before I could lol.

The seller took it to the dealer who pulled the head off and put a scop down to the crank and found salt water. Must have been sitting for a bit too.
Buyer took it to another mechanic who took the head off and said its just the o-ring on the head. (well likely from the last time it was taken apart)
So the new mechanic put new orings on it. Started it up and it seemed fine.
The buyer took it out a few times and says it works great.
So its back on the classifieds a few hours later for 3500$!!
Followed by another add from the seller exclaiming SCAM!! Buyer beware, the engine will soon blow....
The buyer even offered a rebutle in the classified add saying the seller's mechanic didn't know what they were doing....

So I'm just waiting to see what happens. Feel bad for someone to get it and it blows right away and puts a hold in the casings.....

Not sure what will happen but this.... But I wish i would have gotten to it sooner and done it right so someone could enjoy it properly. Its like waiting for a trainreck.

Talk about a total jerk, sells a known bad ski then screws the buyer a second time trying to kill his resale.

There is an add saying 2005 gti needs noting, ready to go.
And another add that says "SCAM" talking about the same machine.

I just sold this Seadoo and trailer to this guy 24 hours ago. I had the Sea-Doo checked by a certified Sea-Doo mechanic from Full Throttle Power Sports, the motor needs to be replaced! Salt water got in the bottom end and cause MAJOR problems. This Sea-Doo is a 2005 GTI. His ad says that it is ready to go.. this is NOT the case!! Buyers beware!!!

I've been in touch with the seller as they got back to me to say it was sold and we exchanged a few conversations. Seller is feeling bad about the next person who gets it.

Well it’s always buyer beware and the original seller is a tool. Sounds like it ended well.

First off, let me say I applaud you for showing concern for the next owner of this time bomb. It says a lot about your character.

From reading through all of the posts, it appears to me that the original seller was trying to be honest and upfront and disclosed that the ski was going to need an engine and that the buyer understood this upon purchasing. I get the impression that the "buyer" buys and sells these on a regular basis. What leads me to conclude this is that he states that he "has a cheaper trailer available". This would also lead me to believe that he fully understands what happens to one of these engines once it has sat with water in the crank case.

I can tell you from my own recent experience with mine that rust in the crank case can go unnoticed for a time. I ran mine for most of the season last year before it finally seized the PTO connecting rod bearing. Upon disassembly I noticed two things 1) The crankshaft on the PTO side was considerably rusted and 2) based on what the inside of the mag housing looked like, the PO had most likely submerged the ski at some point. Yet the engine ran for quite some time without showing any obvious signs of failing.

To my point, the original seller tried to be honest and took his licks by selling the ski cheap. Now he's pissed because the buyer is being unscrupulous and is trying to make an extra 2K on a unit that the seller knows is destined to fail. And also that making a couple of trips around the lake and it running great does not mean that the engine won't ultimately fail. I don't blame the original seller for being pissed at this. But ultimately, he did his part trying to be honest and now it is his buyer who is not being honest. This is in no way the sellers responsibility but he is trying to make it right by warning potential buyers. Good for him!
