coil resistance on GTX?

93 GTX. meter set on 20K and wire to wire (secondary?) reading on one of my coils is 11.69 and another coil reads 12.51. The book says 5.85-6.50. seems like I am doing something wrong. I am also not sure how to test the primary.
The problem was the thing ran great on the trailer, but when the machine was put under load in the water it lost spark.

Looks like you found your problem. I’ve had a brand new aftermarket coil with resistance out of spec drop out above half throttle. Oem coil fixed it. To test the primary, one lead on the blade terminal, and the other on the metal around one of the bolt holes.

Thanks, the unused aftermarket coil is the one testing higher and I may drop that in and see if it does the trick. Not sure I want to invest $225 (a little pricey?) with the local dealer for a coil and may just sell the machine if this doesn't do it.
