Changing oil type

I have a 1997 Seadoo GTX with a 787 and a 1997 Seadoo Speedster with twin 717 motors. The 787 has rave valves but the 717 does not. I am currently using Quicksilver synthetic blend oil and I was thinking about going to a full synthetic to reduce the level of smoke. I hear there are other advantages as well. My question is, if I let the blend oil run low in the tank but not run out..is it ok to put the full synthetic oil in of top of the blend or will this cause issues?

I'll go out on a limb and try to answer this best I can. Mixing of different oil types is not recommended, as there can sometimes be a chemical reaction between the two types that causes a gel to form, which in turn plugs the oil filter and the engine goes boom!

The best recommendation would be to completely drain the oil tank and clean it and get as much of the old oil out of the rotary valve cavity as possible before refilling with the new oil type.

At the very least, I would take samples of the two different oils and mix them together in a small container and let it sit for a couple of days to see if there is any chemical reactions that take place.

JJsinaz is correct but I would also change the oil filter too.

Just to add you are running the wrong oil in the 787 as it needs to be full synthetic and not a blend.
