Changing 2 stroke oil in tank

So im going to change the oil in the tank because the previous owner put tcw3 oil in a seadoo(nono)...what is a good way to clean out the tank?I got a new oil filter on the way...how do i get the oil out of the rotary shaft bath?There must be some type of small area in there that holds enough oil to cause a mixing problem...Dont want to mix a tcw3 oil witha a api-tc quicksilver oil...or am i ok just changing whats in the filter and lines??
 
No easy way to do it... but if it was me.....


1) Use a suction pump to drain the tank.
2) take the hose off the injection pump, and drain it.
3) Replace the filter.
4) remove the hose at the fitting, under the carbs, and let that drain out.
5) Clean the oil spilled
6) Bleed the oil injection system.
7) Go ride !!
 
Thank you DR Honda for your quick reply...Goin to replace the injector lines as well...do you know the inner diameter of this type of hose???Also when it comes to my first start after performing this maintenance will the rotary gear bath fill itself with gravity?? I already know about holding the oilpump arm wide open at idle...Thanks again:)
 
Yes... the rotary valve gears will gravity fill.

In my shop, I use "medium" tygon fuel hose for the injection hoses. I think it's just under 1/8" ID. I will see if there is a real size marked on it.

Just an FYI. Any time I service the oil system... I add about 1 oz/gal oil into the main fuel tank. that way, you will still get oil into the engine, if there is an air bubble in the oil injection.
 
So doc did you check on the diameter of the oil injector hoses?? You said it is a tad under 1/8 inside diameter so can it be 3/32??im asking cause i have 3/32....also about this air bubble in the oil system...im gonna bleed it but if it got an "air bubble"wont it be able to push it along?..your makin me nervous doc...

Sorry, I got hung up last night, and I forgot to check while I was at my shop. BUT.... I use it on my RC models, so I just went down the the garage and checked. It looks like a 3/32" drill will just slide into it without too much resistance. So... I'm going to say that it is 3/32" id. (there wasn't any markings on the hose)

With that said... the 1/8" id hose will work too... but it is a little loose, and you have to make sure that your clamps (zip ties) are tight. There is less of a chance of the 3/32" hose falling off.
 
Don't be nervous. It really is simple to do. The hardest part is getting the zip-tie on the PTO injection nipple. (it's kind of under the engine)

Bleeding is simple. Just start the engine, and hold the pump arm to the "Open" position. You will see the oil pulse up the hoses, and in about 10 ~15 seconds... the ski will be smoking like a chimney.

Since I work on other people's stuff... I don't like to take a chance that I missed something. The extra oil (in the fuel) won't hurt anything... and it's cheap insurance that I got all the air out.
 
So i siphoned out the oil from the tank and i gotta get the oil out of the rotary valve bath...but this is my question....I mixed some of the old oil with the new oil in a cup and it did not seem to change consistency...do you guys think its ok that there is a little oil in tank and rotary valve lines...
 
Don't take a chance. Clean out as much as you can. It doesn't have to be "Squeaky Clean"... it just needs to be empty.

We've had this discussion in the past. One of out members tried mixing, and nothing happed... but in the tank, it turned to jelly. It probably had to do with the heat, and constant mixing. (vibration, and the ski moving)

Anyway... you just don't want a good place for it to mix.

Most of the time, when we get people saying that they had an oil injection failure, it's normally one of the small hoses broke, or the filter clogged up. Don't try to take the easy way out. since you are draining the system... change the hoses, and filter. (it may save your engine)

If I'm on premix does the RV consume oil?? Or are you just maintaing level?
 
Just bringing it to the top hoping to get answer on RV.
Does it consume oil if your on premix.

Yes... it's just maintaining a level... but if the center seals are leaking (common for an old engine) you will use oil. That's why it's best to leave the tank in the hull, with a quart of oil in it. Some people like to make a loop of hose, with a place to fill oil into the loop... but if you start drinking oil past the seals... it won't take long before you destroy the gears.

yep have tank installed but questioned on wether or not to remove and loop lines or leave it alone?? but with that it will stay on and I'll draw a line on tank to monitor for consumption....
