Thanks in advance to this group for the help. I have a 2002 Challenger 1800 with the 240 hp EFI M2 Jet Drive. I was out on the lake two weeks ago when my boat lost half of it's power. At full throttle, the boat would barely plane out.
I figured that it could the typical 3 things; something suck in the the intake, ignition issue or fuel issue. I had no problem getting my boat back on the trailer to determine that the intake and impeller were clear. This left me with now determining if it was a fuel or ignition issue.
My goal was to take it into a shop and have them diagnoise the problem, but all the shops around me are 4 weeks out before they can see my boat. I do not want to just start replacing parts without really knowing the problem.
My first guess is that it is the fuel pump. The engine sounds like combustion is alright, but I can not confirm this and I assumed it was just being robed of fuel. I did changed the fuel filter this year (just some FYI).
My question is should I wait to have it properly diagnoised or should I try to figure out the problem myself to get me back in the water quicker? If I work on the boat (I have no problem fixing motors and parts), where should I start?
Thanks again for the advice.
John
