I bought my Seadoo June 2016 and use it only about 5 times in the summer. I am now dealing with a catastrophic failure of the engine, there was an IBR recall for my model which I was never made aware of. I believe BRP should replace the IBR as well as my engine. We take amazing care of it and get it properly winterized every year. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

What happened is the engine stopped mid ride, we had brought it home a few days after picking it up from its annual tune up and it was working fine. My BF was out on it and it just stopped mid turn in the middle of the river. We tried changing the battery and that didn't work. We did notice some oil at the bottom and assumed it was related to that, when we got to the place they said they were not authorized to fix it but picked up parts of the casing from the engine. We still haven't gotten a diagnosis from the dealer but I did call BRP today and they had a recall on my make and model for the IBR, could this have been the issue?

IBR (Integrated Brake and Reverse) would not cause an engine failure, if you picked up pieces of the engine you probably threw a connecting rod. Could be caused by a number of things, did you ever do the supercharger bearings? They are supposed to be changed every two years and failure of those would be catastrophic.

I had a failure last year, Connecting rod through side of engine and hit starter. If pieces of block are in the hull it has a blown engine. I Rebuilt engine over the winter with parts from dealers, ebay, etc and salvaged what I could from the old engine. $2000 for me to repair. If you have the ability rebuild it yourself, it is a fairly easy engine to build. Refer to the engine shop manual for all specs and torques.
