This is driving me crazy. I have been chasing crankcase leaks for weeks. This is a 1996 SPX 720 engine. At first it was leaking at the crank seal at the PTO end and possibly the inner seals as well. bought rebuilt crank and replaced the RV shaft seal. pressure test, still leaking, found RV seal leaking again, replaced again. pressure test and still more leaks. It seem to be leaking now at the crancase seam. one leak is on the face of the rotary valve surface where the cases meet and another on the opposite side under the exhaust manifold were the cases meet. I used a good amount of Hondabond4 on the surfaces but does not appear to be holding. I tried to tighten the crank bolts another 5 lbs but no help. So, I must split the cases again. Anybody have any ideas how I can seal the cases better so they wont leak. Also I bought this ski with the engine out and top end apart. I am asumming they are matched cases. Please give me some direction!!!!!

Take it apart and reseal it with ThreeBond 1211. There is nothing better. You should never over torque the bolts.

I agree. Split, clean, and reseal with 1211. Also, you might need to double check the cases, assembled without crank, to ensure they are from a matched set. If not, you may never be able to get them to seal.
