Carbs to Carb Air Box Seal

1996 GTX 787. Just replaced all fuel lines and am about to reassemble. I scraped some gunk off these mating surfaces. Was it a sealer? I'd like to know what was used so I can replace it properly. Thanks.

Thank you! The stuff I scraped off did indeed have a red tint! Makes sense.
