Carbon Ring Rebuild Kit

1. Any recommendations where to purchase a carbon ring rebuild kit for a 2008 RXT-X?
2. Can I run the engine at 4,000 PRM (to move oil from PTO housing) with a damaged carbon ring?
3. Which service tools (identified in shop manual) do I really need?
Thanks!

Guess we'd need to know what boat?? Carbon ring on 'older' is easy, special tool or just a big fork plus common hand tools. Ring on newer are held in differently and need different tools and procedures. You can overheat a carbon ring but it takes a bit and yours is pooched anyway. Also if you just lower the front of your ski down to the hitch sitting on the ground, you won't lose oil out the PTO bellows anyway so no need to try and move the oil to the upper chamber.

1. Search for your part numbers on Google or Ebay.

2. Yes
3. All, unless you like a good fight and paying for the part twice because you jacked it up the first time by not using the recommended tool. Tools make things easy!

Thank you. 2008 RXT 255.

Thanks for your reply. Prices vary significantly on eBay. Wondering if price is tied to quality?

Try partzilla. Still not cheap but the cheapest oem supplier I've dealt with. You can do just the carbon if the chrome flange ring is mint.. For the $ do the bellows for sure, it's not just the water proof tie but also the spring that puts the tension on the carbon ring to keep it seated.

For removal yours is the simple one more or less. Ideally you have an alignment tool to hold the shaft, then the pressure ring is slid (read forced) back, a single C ring is removed then the whole thing can come out.
