1994 xp---what kind of indicator/warning noises are there supposed to be on this ski,if any? is there a normal beep or noise when you plug in lanyard or starting.

Yours would only have an overheating beeper. With it running you can pull the plug off the temp sensor and ground it out and it should beep.

94s are pretty basic. Grease the driveshaft bearing, replace the grey fuel lines, rebuild carbs with genuine factory kits, and change the pump oil.

thanks,is that the same for 95 sp? just bought the xp and got the sp for FREE!!! I could use some precautionary advise before I make very many newbie mistakes. can I find that info on the site?
thanks again

The sp is a 587 engine. Same basics apply. Also check oil pump supply and the small lines off the pump to the intake runners on both skis. Only run seadoo oil. If the oil in the tank is unknown, I would drain it, the lines, and rotory valve Chamber and refill with sea door oil. The white jug will work on those models. It's the mineral type oil. The yellow jug is synthetic and is used in the later year skis.
Keep reading the site, tons of information. If its happened, it's on this site.

I started both on the trailer , noticed the xp had very little smokey exhaust....the sp had more, like I would expect from a "first start up"2 stroke. I have the carbs off the xp to do a rebuild when parts arrive. is the oil pump just below the intake manifold? when you say check the small lines to intakr runners ,is there a possibility they may be clogged,is there something other than leaks, cracks etc... to check. I have read about lining up the marks on the oil pump and the arm on the carb assembly,i did not check that before I removed carbs but will when I reinstall.
just hoping I don't drop the clip that holds the cable to the arm, have learned that what you drop is not always retrievable!! just got a Clymer manual in the mail, hope to at least learn the seadoo terminology.
thanks again I appreciate your time and advice

Yes, the 2 small lines under the carb.I replace those on every ski I buy and use. 3/32 tygon line. You can get it at lowes in the weed eater parts section.
They usually Crack from age.

Oh, welcome aboard! I would keep reading all you can.

Just search "657x" . You will be an expert by morning. Jk, they really are pretty simple.

glad to be here! its a good place to get advice and regain some sanity.
got any advice if the overheat buzzer doesn't sound when grounded?

They fail all the time. minnetonka4me sells good used ones for $15. Some have used radioshack ones and the OEM ones are available from Floyd Bell for $17 but they will charge you $17 to ship also.

The Floyd Bell part number is SP-1136 it is a new one that even has the factory wire colors.
