Buying in Canada

Hi there,

I am looking for a '03~'06ish Sportster 155hp. I am pretty good at watching eBay, boat trader and Craigslist. There are some nice ones out there if I don't mind driving 8-12 hours from Rochester NY. Heck, I'd do that for the right boat. But I just realized I was ignoring Canada. The border is under two hours away and I am seeing some nice boats up in Ontario.

Anyone buy a boat/ski and bring it across the border? I can look into it at the Customs site but figured I'd ask here.

Also, their prices seem higher. Used to be explained with the exchange rate but now it is at almost par I think so I am not sure if this is just optimistic sellers or a higher demand up there that drives the price.(I am basing the pricing opinion on the last two '03 Sportsters on eBay went for less than $7k and north of the border they are asking more than $10k.

Oddly enough I vacation in Canada for at least a week in Canada (Calabogie ON) each year so it will get a lot of Canadian use.

Exchange rates are about the same now. Most people up there report that te prices are indeed higher. That is mostly due to supply and demand. Supply is lower up there and people want to buy them. So sellers are getting better prices. Sometimes you have to travel for a good deal. I drove 10 hours each way for my boat. I wouldnt hesitate to do it again though.

I live near Toronto....don't waste your time looking up here, prices are ridiculous!! Brought up my 03 sportster 4TEC 2 weeks ago which I bought down in Florida last september and sold it up here for almost $10K!! Bought it for $5,800!! If you want a good deal you gotta drive for it!! Just bought an 07 speedster150 from Chicago which I picked up last weekend.
