Cylindres look really dry and possible rust. Running lean? No oil? Water ingestion?

And I made a newbie mistake after a flip over and not taking all the proper steps to remove all the salt water from the crankcase (after a long day of riding went straight home instead). Ended up with a seized engine after coming back to it after 2 months.

I did flush the engine with clean water hosed and cranked the engine for a few before storing away though. But apparently it was not enough to get everything out and learned the hard way (please remove spark plugs, crank it and make sure it starts again before storing).

Yes it did ingest water and motor seized. Removed cyl, sprayed wd40 for a few hours, light sanded cyl walls, finally broke loose, cleaned everything up and put it back together. Now the carb is a mess it looks like it ingested a jelly fish and I'm cleaning/rebuilding as we type.

Question is what the hell happened to the piston? Where did the missing piece go? It seems it had been running like this for a while. Cyl walls look smooth no scoring of any kind..

With the Candoo pro it shows it has logged close to 300 hrs and the motor looks factory. Ran strong too. Wonder if this is the end of it?

My plan is to rebuild the carb, run it for 5-10minutes with the hose plugged and do a cyl preasure test afterwards.

Rust in the cylinders and rings caused it to snag a ring and pop the piston part off?

It probably happened to the previous owner because I have only used the jet ski once.

Am I the only one naive enough to think it should run fine like this for another season?

At this point the engine was already shot and should have never been run, the damage was already done.

I agree.

If the crank, cyl walls, head were good, would you risk slapping another std size top end rebuild kit?

Sorry I'm not your typical cut corner guy but taking the entire engine back to the U.S. for a full rebuild is going to be a challenge task because I'm in a 3rd world country lol.

We have plenty of automotive machine shops and some are well equiped but with limited marine engine experience.

Do these cylinders use some sort of special material like nikasil coating/plating?

If water was in the engine the crank, bearings and cylinders are not good. Rust has formed and the bearings are bad and the cylinders are pitted and rusted and will act like sandpaper on new rings and pistons.

You will have to get the cylinders bored oversized and larger pistons fitted. I would also order a reman crank.
