Ok guys, went to the lake yesterday having a real good time riding around on my 97' xp when all of a sudden heard something break. The engine was still running gave it some throttle and nothing it just revved up and went nowhere, so I got towed back to shore looked in the engine compartment and there was a couple chunks of aluminum possibly from the drive shaft? A buddy of mine said that if something is to break it's that part so that your motor won't get messed up, anybody know what part this is? And is this common, and a hard fix or easy fix its on the pto side? I haven't really looked yet cause it was to damn hot today to be working on my ski. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I dove into it last night and got the motor out and clearly the driveshaft is shattered. Not to familiar with these parts so bear with me. There was a red plastic piece that was broken and the part that connects to the motor from the driveshaft is broken on both sides. I'll get some pictures and post them in a little while. What are the names of these parts and what parts are needed for this fix? Where can I order these parts from?

Replac pto and shaft and red rubber damper it probably dried out and disintegrated . You will need to realign the engine

As 1of500 said you will need two new rubber isolators (the red parts), a new driveshaft, and new PTO and the alignment cap from the driveshaft that is missing from yours that fits in the PTO.
I would also check your engine mounts for damage.

PS: I can bring my alignment tool up when I see you next weekend.

So I ordered all the parts I need except that alignment cap, is it also called a snap bushing? That would be great if you could bring that tool up! What weekend are you coming up, I thought you said the 29th of July or are you coming sooner? Thanks for everybody's help.

LOL, don't pack your bags yet haha.
Am I going to need 2 of those bushings or just one? And where can I get them, OSD marine doesn't have any in stock...

I would try Westside Powersports as it is a discontinued part.
The diagram shows one at each end.

To get the one out of the rear you will have to pull the pump and driveshaft. It would also be a good time to inspect the rear rubber dampener and you will have to have all that to align the engine anyways.

Thanks for all the help guys! Couple more questions, do the 97' hx and xp models run the same drive shaft set up cause all I could find is the hx snap bushings? Mikidymac not sure if I can wait till the 29th or 30th for that alignment tool but if I can't find one im definitely going to need to use yours any recommendations on where to find one? Everywhere I've looked is out of stock.

I could ship it to you then pick it up when I come. I can try to get a price on Tuesday but it’s so awkward in shape.

I also have a friend going to Shaver on the 22nd that could bring it up.

You can check the parts diagram to cross reference part numbers.
