Hello,

We have upgraded our 99 gtx ltd to a 2009 gtx 215 ( o hours got a great deal so the dealer can make way for the 2010 season models). The dealer, we bought it off said to break in the 4 tec with the Learner key for the first 7 hours approx, alternating the revs etc, etc.

Reading on this forum some say not to use the learner key and just the normal lanyard but take it easy for the first 10 hours.

Rang the dealer back and he is adamant to just use the learner key.

Read the operators guide top to bottom, nothing written by BRP for engine break in-so can anyone give me the difinitive way to break in the engine.

And how does the learner key work, I would assume the computer stops the spark from going to one cylinder but it still has to move up and down so thus is still " seating " in?

Appreciate any feed back......and sorry its probably been done a million times before...but just cofused because
1/ Dealer seems adamant to use learner lanyard.
2/ Other riders seem adamant NOT to use it-becasue they say it doesn't break in the 3rd cylinder.
3/ BRP don't seem to have an " official" guide in the Operator manual so you can do what THEY say.

Cheers.

Take that learners key and hide it. Drive it through all the rpm ranges...not settling too long at any set speed. Don't run wot for any real length of time.

also....take whatever you stealership tells you with a grain of salt....most salemen and half their techs wouldn't know their azzes from a hole in the ground.

I used the learner key, as recommended by my knowledgable dealer because I have two boys who may not be as "kind" to my ski as I would have liked. We racked up 10 hours within two days. The boys will still use the learner key until mom gets to a higher comfort level.
