Hello to everyone out there, I am new to the forum having just taken delivery of my brand new GTX is 255 LTD and very proud of it too! I put it the water for the first time a couple of days ago and within minutes I noticed an amber service light and the message 'Maintenance Required' on the LCD. The stored Fault Code is 1658. To be honest I dont know if the light was already showing when I started it and in my excitement, didnt note whether it beeped twice or not. However, now I notice that I only get one long beep when I connect the DESS Key and the light stays lit even while I continue riding. Everything else seems to work fine and the bike pulls well into the upper rev range. When I kill the engine though, it sometimes will not turn over at all for maybe 10 mins even though everything cycles through on the instrument panel. When it does eventually start, it runs perfectly. Glad for any advice, many thanks. BTW, great forum!

i have seen some bad gauge clusters. replaced a few
dont have the manual in front of me to check the code. will respond after work
there was a update/recall in regards to super charger hose coming off,
make sure if your ski was in the range for this, it was done
this would not throw a code, just low on power.

Hi Mudpie
Thanks for the speed of your reply! Do you have the range of numbers for the recall? Power seems OK for now, but it will be good to know and get it sorted. Also hope the cluster is OK. Will wait to hear from you later then. Thanks.

P 1658 is a faulty d.e.s.s key comunication
this could explain your no start too.
Possibale cause could be; damage to key switch, circuit wires, connector, or ecm pins
as for updates, get your dealer to check bulletin 2009-2
campaign # 2009-0003 this affects all 2009 gtx l is and rxt is 255
this update has four parts to it
#1 super charger outlett hose inspect/repair = hose may come off
#2 front splash deflector rivets= excess flex may occure
#3 seat inspect and adjust= front of seat to close to glove box
#4 ibr soft ware update= ibr could be affected from loss of cps signal
hope this helps

I have now checked all the wiring connections in the to ensure tightness and the error code has now disappeared and on connecting the DESS Key, I now get to short beeps, so I guess you are right. Thanks indeed, it made things easy just knowing where to look.

However, the Maintenance light remains lit and 'Maintenance Required' still scrolls across the LED. The bike has just one hour on it and runs smooth. Any suggestions?

I will ask the dealer about the recall, again, it is helpful to have the detail you have supplied. Many thanks indeed!

Warranty...

Nice to hear, part of your problem was solved. There are some very good mechanics in the forum, there advice may be invaluable to you.

You might disconnect the ground wire on your battery, wait for a minute or so, then put it back on. Most times, the only way to reset a maintenance code is with the B.U.D.S. program. I'm shooting in the dark on the battery cable.

I would be very weary and also, very careful as to what you do to your ski right now. You can do something that may allow the dealership/BRP to void your warranty. Anything you have go wrong with a brand new ski, you should be taking it back to the dealership. I know, you paid top dollar for that bike, so anything less than perfect should not be accepted.

If you do not get the kind of service you expect from the dealer, you can write to BRP direct by going to www.seadoo.com and looking for their "contact us" link.............

Hi Seadoosnipe, thanks for the tip on the battery cable, it's simple enough to try when I get home tonight and I'll keep yu posted. Point about warranty noted and I will speak to the dealership if I have no joy.

This is an excellent forum by the way and it has already been useful to me within hours of signing up - and for free too! Way to go.

Unbelievable! I had the same experience on Sunday where I put the key on the pole and after a few seconds I got one long beep then through the mode I found fault code 1658. I had only done 2 hours and was guttered. I took the ski on Monday back to the dealer and the dealer mechanic put the key on and it started first time! Apparently I wasn't putting the key on correctly (not sure if this is still the truth or not)but sure enough he said if you put the key on sideways it works everytime, and it has worked every time ever since!
