I just bought that '94 XP that was owned by the same lady I bought the '95 XP 800 from. I asked her how much she wanted and she said $500 and come and get it. That is the same price I gave for the '95. So in end end I have paid $1,000 for both. So in the past 6 weeks I have paid $1,500 for '94 XP, '95 XP 800, '96 XP. Not too bad of a deal in my book. It is just that these X4 hulls are too perfect in my mind to turn down such great deals. I figured the '94 XP would be a great loaner ski to friends and family, and should be really reliable and fuel friendly in the greatest hull of all time.
I checked out the compression and it read 130-135 ish psi in both cylinders, but may be my gauge because both ran the exact same. The gauge was like moving rapidly and not stationary at a certain number. I didn't think the compression was bad b/c both cylinders read the exact same. I put a new battery in and took off the top of the airbox and sprayed starting fluid in it and it fired up, but would cut off soon as the starting fluid ran out. I took some mixed gas and put in the airbox and it would hit and shut straight off. I think it has carb issues. Is that what yall think? I ordered a carb rebuild kit, and then I will go from there. The funny thing is some of the grey fuel lines have been replaced and some have not. It is missing the rubber battery strap and the shock/ vibration thing under the seat that is round.

careful with starter fluid. when a ski comes to me that has been sitting for a while i usually start at compression, carbs, then spark. usually 8 times out of 10 its the carbs.

cool man,3 x4's for 1500..sounds like yor addicted too!
you may not even need the carb kits, ive been thru 7 sets of carbs lately,on skis that wouldnt run,and i just took em apart cleaned em up,they ran perf!only 1 set needed needles n seats,n that of course is one of our skis.go figure.
as far as your comp guage, the fluctuating is usually the valve stem in the end is leaky, lettin pressure in the guage and right back out,its the same as in your car tire valve stems, clean it n try it again.
congrats on the 3 skis! way cool.

Yes I definitely am an X4 addict. There is no question about that. These new skis are too big for me and don't even excite me. I am going to keep this ski as a loaner or flip it when the weather warms up a bit. I figured with its age a carb rebuild could not hurt. I am going to do this, change out grey fuel lines, and add in an inline fuel filter in all of my new X4s. Also can I use a generic oil filter from like Autozone that will fit the 1/8 inch line or do I need to use an oem oil filter?
