Both engines just die simultaneously, 1997 speedster dual 717

Yeah so the other day I left it idling in the water unattended. I returned and there was a loud steady siren. So I popped the engine compartment and the driver side engine felt really hot, so I killed it and let it cool down. Well the engines both start and run now and do not overheat, but all of a sudden now the entire boat just shuts off. Pull the key, put it back in and I get two beeps and the engines both start back up for a little while, then out of nowhere it just shuts down.

It has been doing this i believe since the overheating issue. I don't know much about electronics and have no idea where to even start looking.

If both engines just randomly shut off... it has nothing to do with one overheating.

All you can do is to check over all the connections. The most common place is a bad lanyard post... or dirty contacts.

With that said... you need to figure out why your engine overheated before you destroy it.

I had this exact same issue this past weekend. 1997 Speedster, both engines will die...pull the key start them back up and go for 15-45 seconds..then they die... Coincidentally my buddy on his 1995 ski was having similar issues. We were trying to get back to the ramp and looked like a water circus starting and stopping.

I opened the engine cover, let it sit for about 10-15 mins, started up and ran long enough to get it back to the ramp and it cut out again right as I loaded it up on the trailer.

I was going to look into the cooling system for clogs as it seemed to me that the engines were overheating and the system was shutting it down.

This was my second trip out with the boat after buying it used. The prior owner installed a stereo and made some interesting wiring upgrades and I noticed that the engines would cut out when idling through no wake zone after I turn on the blower. So I am thinking it might be some sort of electrical issue. But why does letting it sit for extended periods of time temporarily fix the problem?
