Once again, I had the honor of towing in my 99 GTI...

Little background info before laying the problem(s) on you.
New SBT motor (720), Oil Block of kit, Rebuilt carb, New fuel lines, etc.

Now, we were out riding today, and I notice my wife just quit following me. Turned around and realized ski wasn't on. Pull up and she said it just died out of nowhere. No hesitation, spitting, sputtering, nothing. It was getting no power whatsoever. Pulled her in, got it home and threw a charged battery in. Nothing.

Checked fuses on the MPEM, the 5 amp fuse was blown. I just figured a 10 year old fuse was due up to blow, so I went and bought some more. Put new fuse in, and nothing. Thought, maybe the DESS went out. Pull lanyard off and hit start button 5 times to see if the gauges would light up. Nothing. Now, here is my problem. I searched on here, and most people with a similar problem either were blowing a fuse on start-up, or once it was blown, it kept blowing fuses. Mine wasn't on start-up, nor did it blow the new fuse. Still a bad MPEM?

Starter, Stator & Flywheel were all cleaned up really well when I had it apart putting the new motor in. I have about 4 hours on it now, so I don't see either of those three just instantly dying? I do suppose it is possible though.

Was able to jump the relay in the rear box by the battery, and the starter turned over. I then checked voltages on the wires and got this:

what can you tell me from here?

I can repair this MPEM for you for a fraction of the cost of a new one.... PM me for pricing.

As long as you did not put a larger fuse in there...

I recently had the same issue with my 00 GTI. I never blew a fuse, but my key would just intermittently stop working like it wasn't even on the DESS post. It ended up just being some very light corrosion on the lower blade connectors on the large fwd plug on the MPEM that was causing a bad connection. Scraped it off and it was good to go. The plug also didn't have any Dielectric grease on it either unlike all of the other connections in the system.

Great, thank you for your business, I will get it repaired and right back to you.

This guy saved me a lot of money by fixing my computer versus me buying a new one and having to get the ski reprogrammed :hurray: Put computer back in, fired it right up :hat:

Thanks a ton!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GUY FOR THE JOB!!

my "beeper" that has never worked, also has begun working since the computer rebuild as well haha
