Riding the GTX today, the red battery light illuminated a steady red then at times it would flash. Battery looks pretty new. I will check the voltage with the ski running. Does the ski need the battery to remain running or might this just be the charging circuit. Bad Rectifier ??

Rode about 40 minutes with the light on. checked the battery voltage it was 12.32 about an hour after I got home. started the ski and the battery voltage went up to 12.6 volts. when I revved the engine When I shut the ski down the battery voltage decreased to 12.34 after about 1 minute. Help is appreciated.

You should be getting 13.5-14 volts when u rev it up. You probably need a stator.

If I do the ohm test on the stator would that determine if it is good or bad ? What about the rectifier? You know I am looking for an easy fix.... hopefully :)

Both the stator and rectifier can test good and be bad. Pull the flywheel and get a visual inspection of the stator.

I am going to be in touch with you on that. I have the wrench that pulls the flywheel on the 787, will that one work? I saw where they recommend a back up tool to hold the stator in position while you loosen the nut. Do these things cooperate or are they are real pain? I need an easy way cuz obviously I am going to be doing a number of these. I need to do 2 at the moment. Help is appreciated.

Use rope in the cylinder to lock the motor up when removing the nut and flywheel

I guess I"ll have to make a puller then. Something small that will allow me to get in there and loosen the nut. I will have to develop a technique for this procedure. Yuck !! Thanks for the input.

The nut comes off with a socket and breaker bar and rope in the cylinder to lock up the motor. I’ll post the puller you need. That’s a 95 Gtx. 657x motor right.

Yes it is. I also have to do a 587. I checked that coil and it is shorted but not to ground.

You don’t have to pull the engine. Just use the rope in the cylinder and it shouldn’t be too much problem
