I just baught a 1999 challenger from a guy who could'nt get it started, got it real cheep! What is happening is, I put the key on the post and sometimes I get one beep but I never get two. I washed the post and key. I also checked all my ground connections and everything checked out ok. I also tried the advanced diagnostic, I pressed the button five times and got nothing. If the battery is drained will it not have the power to start the diagnostic? Everything else works though, the horn, radio, lights, bilge pump and blower. If anyone else has experienced this, any input would be great.
Thanks,

water...make surethe F/N/R/ in in "N" position. other than that, use cables and connect to battery and your car,..see what happens.

I charged the battery and put it back in the boat an it fired right up. A couple days later I tried to start it and I can only get 1 beep and no diagnostic mode. I took the battery to auto zone for a test and it tested good. From everything I have read on the forum and the shop manual I am leaning towards a bad DESS key. This boat in storage for 2 yrs, isthis a common ploblems with boats that have sat for long? Should I have a nw key programmed?
