Battery 101 - 2010 Sea doo GTX 155

Hi everyone! I am based in Ontario, Canada and learned a very valuable lesson this week! (and so did my husband) =)
I have a 2010 Sea doo GTX 155 and have had it since 2018 (Second Owner). Just this past year I replaced the battery as was recommended by my local dealer/service rep.) My husband in the past had been charging battery with a 12 amp trickle charger with no issues).
This past May I bought a new Motomaster Eliminator (yay, Canadian Tire) AMG 12V Powersports Battery.
We charged it once on using the old charger mentioned above, and I went out two weeks ago and it started like a charm.
Went to go out yesterday and boat would not start and went into limp mode with engine light.
After seeing a post on this forum from a person that has a 2011 GTX - someone mentioned that the older trickle chargers (and ours was 10 years old) can "cook" batteries. We found out today that is TRUE!
Took the battery back to our local Can Tire and after they tested it and determined it was "cooked" the reason was due to the fact that all the newer batteries are AGM and require upgraded chargers (AGM as well) - this so they will monitor charging / pulse / and turn off once battery is at capacity. As with most things tech advances even if our boats don't! NOW we bought a new battery AND a new upgraded Charger so hopefully (fingers crossed) I will be smashing waves soon!
Hope everyone has a great summer!
