Back fire through carb at WOT

Absolutely not. Your ignition timing and rotary timing needs to be set correctly. This IS NOT a “close enough” situation.

If that's the case then I am out of ideas on what could cause this backfire.

Problem solved. Like Mikidymac said, some carbs are just wore out no matter how many times you clean and rebuild. Tonight I took the ski out with the new carb and it ran great. So, to recap, it was a few degrees out of time but main issue was a bad carb.
