Left campground to add fuel at nearby Marina. While adding fuel, noticed was using wrong hole. Was adding gas to oil reservoir (I know, I know...believe me...I know!!!).
Had to return to campground so ran engine at idle about 1/4 mile back to campground. I completely drained the oil res, flushed with fresh oil, and added new oil. The next thing is hard to describe because don't know what it's called.
The large, aluminum alloy tube (appros 2 to 3 inch tube) that loops inside the engine compartment, has something to do with propulsion (I guess). Anyway, there are four round raised areas on this tube. Each about the size of a 1/2 dollar coin. Each area has an indentation in the center of the circle.
From a logical, but non-mechanical point of view, it appears that these raised areas were specifically engineered to blow in order to relieve the system of pressure? They sort of remind me of a freeze plug on a car engine. Anyway, one of these blew. Only when the engine is running water sprays out of the hole and fills the bilge. You could tell that it blew from inside the large tube out.
Anyone know what these raised areas are and give me an idea of what happened? And now the big question, the big $$$$ question, did the blow hole happen because of the "adding gas in the wrong hole" incident? Thanks!
