Amps? Where and how

Ok, boat is in the shop getting a final look over, and in the mean time the wifey and I are shopping for a tower and speakers. I want to put an amp so we can hear the music in the boat, and when are getting pulled. we are looking at the two speakers in the boat plus two on the tower, (maybe four if I can talk her into it).

I am not good at this stuff at radio stuff. Where would you put it, and how would you mount it. secondly, whats the hook up process? radio to amp, amp to speakers? Need help, thanks

Depends on what engine setup you have. If you have twin engines like I do, then the only place to get it to fit was the compartment under the cooler. With a single engine it can fit in the rear of the boat. I liked it better in the front compartment because it is not exposed to as much moisture and otehr things like oil and gas vapors. It really based off personal preference and where you can get it to fit.

Amps comes in many sizes. Find one you like and then figure out where it will fit. Check out my audio build thread in the modify section. It has pics and tips. Let me know if yuo have any questions.

Follow this link to the post with pics. The only amp I could find that fit my needs was the Alpine PDX5M. I highly recomend the PDX series amps. They are very high quality and efficient using minimal electricity. It is running the 4 mid range speakers and a pair of 10" subs. It fits perfectly in that spot. All the other PDX amps are identical in size. I used liquid nail to glue down a piece of plywood, then used screws to mount the amp on the wood.

Whatever you do, I would stick to all marine rated stuff.
