I've nearly got this beast started,.. but not quite yet.
Plenty of help from the members on here,... in fact I'm feeling guilty for asking three questions in one day !
Engine has been stripped right down to the crank for a replacement, I've rebuilt it back up slowly, buying new parts as I go , and finally got the engine back into the hull earlier today. Couldn't wait to crank it over, but couldn't find the senders for a couple of connecters earlier. Thats all been fixed now,.. switched it on (my first ever with a jetski )..... heard 2 short beeps then a long one of about 2-3 seconds. Up on the info guage was "low fuel" and "low oil" followed by "maint". The engine cranked over no problem with the new battery. I put in half a tank of petrol, switched it on again and again.. 2 short beeps and a long one , this time only "low oil" and "maintainance" were showing. I cranked it over with no throttle, then half throttle, but nothing fired. Pulled off the spark plug leads one at a time and checked for a spark with a spare plug I had using the engine as an earth. Plenty of spark there on both. Tried again,.. It sounded like it wanted to fire with the first turn, seeming like it was cranking a tiny bit faster,.. still nothing.
I've ordered another set of plugs just in case these ones were old when I bought the machine, and I havent taken the plugs back out to see if they are fouled maybe with the oil that I smeared over the barrels and bearings when I was putting it back together ? ( ran out of time as I had to go to work )
Any suggestions as to what I can look at or check out while I wait for the new plugs to come ??
As the fuel tank was totally empty, will it take a while for the petrol to reach the injectors ?.. the pump is working when I switch the ignition on ( for the initial 2 seconds)..I switched the ignition on and off a few times to try to prime it through.

What might I have put back in the wrong place, which could be possible as this is my first attempt at a jetski !! ?

Thanks for reading,

Jonny

I'm trying to get the info centre to change displays but it wont budge from telling me that the oil is low and "maint" showing on the readout. Will it not change if there is a fault warning ??

Jonny

is the oil sending unit not working or what? That is weird i wish i could be of some help, I use to own a DI model and had nothing but trouble so i sold it. I could just never understand what happened next

you shouldn't power up the system unless everything is connected, it will cause faults. press set 5 times and it should give you codes. press and hold set for several seconds and it should clear the maint. do you have oil in it? you should add plenty of oil, bomby xps synthetic if it were me.

the DI system is a high pressure fuel system, only takes a second or two to prime, you should check your compression on a new motor.

It looks like there is plenty oil in the tank,.. well, its just above the narrowing part of the clear tank looking from the engine bay. I'm going to put more oil in later on tonight and see if that clears the 'low oil' fault. I looked at the workshop manual and the 2-3 second beep is for the oil level right enough. It still has 'maint' there too so I'm going down tonight to double check all the wiring colours to the sensors. The jetski has sat idle for about a year sinse the crank siezed so I'm hoping nothing has gone wrong during that time. I don't have a lot of history on the machine except that the previous owner was very polite in trying to help me out with a few questions I had. He used it regularly at the weekends in the sea until he seized it.
I'm starting to wonder if I've thrown my money away trying to fix it,.. I keep reading horror stories about these Di's,...surely they can't be that awfull ?

Thanks to both of the members for your help so far, I will keep you up-dated,...

Been down to the jetski,.. poured in the oil and switched on . Just the two short beeps this time. No warnings , no red light, only the digital time and the compass reading of 'west'.
Unfortunately it still won't fire up. I've cranked it over several times and nothing at all. I took out spark plug and it looked bone dry. I would have expected to see it looking wet if there was fuel getting through.
Do I check the injectors now ?

Many thanks,

Jonny

put a little bit of gas/premix directly into the cyls through the spark plug holes to see if it will pop. have you checked your compression?

I have'nt checked the compression yet,.. I was hoping it would be okay as there are two new pistons in there ! It turns over smoothly.
I think tomorrow I will carefully remove the fuel line to the injector rail and see if any fuel is reaching there. I will work my way down to the direct injectors.
Please correct me if you think this is wrong,.. as I have mentioned this is my firt time under the hood of a jetski...

Thanks,

Jonny

you shouldn't remove the injectors from the head, it's ok to remove the fuel rail but the injectors in the head have a seal that is pressed in and difficult to get back in place properly.

you should check spark and fuel pressure. have you put fuel directly in the cylinder?

Ski-d00,... unfortunately the injectors were already removed from the cylinder head when I bought the ski (with the dead engine).
I've studied the manual, and have managed to slip them back in again. Are they supposed to be slack enough to rotate when they are in place and the fuel rail clamped down ?
I'm back home now from the garage/storage ,.. so I will try injecting some fuel into the plug holes tomorow. I'm waiting for new plugs to be delivered on Thursday as I don't know how old these ones are. (they are sparking okay).
Thanks for your help so far,

jonny

Update,; there was no fuel getting to the injector rail. Took the high pressure pipe off ans switched the ignition on with end of pipe in glass bottle. Nothing came out even though the pump was turning. Took the pump out of the tank and found it was only airlocked. After replacing it all, the fuel was coming out ok. Next was to try to start her. It started to kick straight away,... but won't fire up to run itself. Battery flat again with cranking too many times. Going back down tonight to try again. Maybe I waill wait till the new plugs come at the end of this week ?

Jonny

IT STARTED !!!!
Wahay,.... don't really know what I done that was the missing link ?
I took off the fuel pump again,.. reconnected as nothing looked wrong, primed it into a jar again,. seen that it was still pumping when I cranked it over and all was well. Then plugged it back onto the fuel rail, gave the injectors a wiggle, the direct injectors a wiggle and cranked it over. It coughed a few times then fired up !!!
Its still a bit boggy, I have to prime the throttle to get it to "sing" ( maybe the rave valves ??? )
There's still a warning flashing 'maint' plus the red light flashing but no buzzer.
So at least it fired and idles roughly,.. time to look at the fine tuning points now....
