Adjusting carb, 1/8 or 1/4 turn increments? Or less?

On both my engines, I have always had minor carb problems that just needed to be adjusted out with low speed needle adjustments.

What is the suggested increment of adjustments between test rides?

Currently, I have a slight hesitation when I nail it that goes away if I pull the choke about 1/3-1/2 up before I gun it. So sounds lean to me. Also, need to use choke when restarting on a warm engine, again sounding lean to me.

I don't want to spend all day in the engine bay, and would like to do one or at most, two adjustments before I nail it dead on.

So should I try 1/8 turn or 1/4 turn richer?

I am currently right at stock configuration, on newly rebuilt carbs, and have just lived with this minor annoyance for the first half of the season (we got a late start this year).
