I have a 97 xp 787. had it running in the yard with the water hooked up and ran fine. Put it in the water, started it and got this high pitched squeal. Drove it abit and mostly cleared up, but at idle still doing it. Sounds like it's coming from the motor. I did have the cleaner assembley off, could it be an air whislte.

If the motor is running ruff it could be an air leak. More than not the jetpump bearing
is the squeeler. If you have a carbone ring and not a carrier bearing, I advise only
a short run of a minute or two, as the CR gets its lubrication ONLY from the pressure
of the ski sitting or immersed in water, not from garden hose. It can heat up quickly out of water. There is a proceedure in the shop manual for checking the counter balance shaft oil. Find isolate locate the sound, you can use a 3' piece of hose as
a stethoscope to the engine & your ear. Bill
